How To Get a Tan By Laying in the Sun

It’s not always an option for many people to go to the tanning bed to get a little color in their skin. If you are very careful about your time spent in the sun, you can achieve a nice even golden glow. The sun is virtually the only place for our bodies to get natural Vitamin D. Vitamin D makes it possible for our bodies to use much needed calcium. Here is what you need to do to get a tan by laying in the sun.

Find an area in your yard, perhaps poolside, where there will be no shadows across your body. Decide what you will wear to tan.

Unfold your lounge chair. Position it so that when you are lying, the sun is overhead centered on your body. Do not tilt your head forward when lying. This will leave a white untanned ring on your neck. Make sure your head is back slightly for an even neck tan.

Part your legs slightly so that the sun can tan the interior sides as well as the top and outer areas.

Raise your arms over your head extended and lay them bottom side up, sort of like an ape.

Lay this way for 15 minutes. Doctors generally agree that 15 minutes exposure to the sun is safe for most people.

Turn onto your stomach. Part your legs slightly. Put your arms back up in the ape-like position. This time they will be top-side up. It’s best to do arm tanning this way because it tends to tan the armpit area more evenly. Lay face down for 15 minutes.

Repeat this process daily, doing 15 minutes on each side to get a wonderful natural tan.

At the end of the 15 minute intervals, you may feel like you’ve gotten virtually no sun. You may feel like you can stay out a little bit longer. Rest assured that you DID get sun and overexposure is NOT safe!

If necessary, spritz off with water to cool yourself down.

Use this time to listen to your favorite songs or catch up on your reading. You can also meditate.
